A nutshell for 2018

So, whats been happening in the life of Project 418 anyway?

January 1st we gathered all the children and staff from Delmas & Kenskoff together to celebrate their independence day. It was a day filled with Soup Joumou (A traditional Haitian soup shared to celebrate their independence from France)

SELF SUFFICIENCY AND TRADE SKILLLZ!

These kids are learning true Haitian craftsmanship.
It is a great skill and something to be very proud of!

The children learned how to make soap for use and to sell in the market!

We have created our own lable.
Sold only in Haiti!

The children are using scrub boards as instruments and
they are singing that they are the future generation of Haiti and they are proud!

GROWTH!

Our agricultural sustainability initiative is beginning to produce PRODUCE! 

This year we will grow
Tons and tons of heads of lettuce, spinach carrots, potatoes, sweet potatoes, leeks, green peppers, beets, bananas, loquats, mangoes, avocados, tomatoes, heads of broccoli and enough parsley to last 3 years!

We can do the work ourselves.

We can do anything we choose to do!

We are using our skills to make our own blocks and build a multi-functional building to help ourselves and others

The Hope Centre English School

A discounted school teaching English to those in the community having a desire to learn what they might be unable to afford at the larger schools. 

We currently have 102 students!

We raise the children to know proper nutrition

The children deliver 2 months worth of food to a small orphanage!

We support a small orphanage with 55 pounds of rice and
55 pounds of corn per month

We let the children give it to their children

One of the things we teach to our children is that we will be
self-sufficient and help other people

Oh! Did we mention, the kids can juggle?

The Journey thus far & The vision

We are empowering formerly impoverished Haitian children and our staff through classroom education, technology and vocational training to become leaders with the resources and knowledge to break the cycle of extreme poverty.  We are equipping them to be self-sufficient and independent.

Our vocational training includes carpentry, masonry and painting.
 
October 2014 to June 2015 
Recruiting staff, rescuing children and teaching our mission
 
We are changing the current mindset that everything must be given to us by teaching three basic truths

July 2015 to December 2017
Applying knowledge and saving money (a dollar saved is a dollar earned)
 
Our farming program trains children by the process of preparing the land to the harvest. 

 
Our children become the staff, working in the garden, building furniture, building with block and cement, painting as well as cooking and cleaning.

This allows us to accomplish many things while teaching valuable skills.

Earning and providing Income
 
THE HOPE CENTRE MARKET
A small store on the main street that sells many of the products that we made - such as mirrors, benches, desks, stools, shelves, chairs, and tables. 
Vegetables that are not needed for consumption will be sold in the market also. 
Personalized bracelets and necklaces.
Small cakes, soups, meat and vegetable patties, and pizza will be made and sold.
Other items purchased and sold for profit such as drinks and candies.
